About

In 2001 Lab-Gear was borne of a simple idea to design, and make, technical clothing for Mountain Bikers that was different to what was around at the time, all in our home town of Sydney, Australia.

At the core of this idea was the desire to offer an individual approach to what was, and mostly remains, a very impersonal affair, buying clothing.

Over the following years our ideas and thoughts evolved while the range grew. As our experiences and relationships with local suppliers strengthened, dealings with other industries in the far east continued to shape our views and strengthened our drive to create a sustainable, environmentally conscious business model.

Lab-Gear today is a story of an evolution of ideas, a refinement of processes, and a core belief in the provenance of the product itself.

Our entire line is fully bespoke, with each and every item made to order, 15 minutes away from our office; and what started as a small selection of the first Superfine Merino active wear in Australia – in black, is now a full range made from pure Australian Superfine Merino, available in a full range of colours and weights, designed for whatever you want to do.

But above all, and most importantly, we make kit you’ll love, not ‘just buy’.

Putting out there…

We claim that we use as much non Chinese/SEA made content as possible, so here is a list of where all the materials and components we use come from:

Sewing labour: Sydney, Australia (15 minutes away from our office).

Components:

All Merino: Australian grown wool scrubbed, spun and dyed in Victoria, Australia.

Badges + logo tape: Made in Taiwan – we are looking again at local non woven options.

Chamois for bibs: Made in Italy.

Cotton and Denim: Australian owned mill in China.

Elastics: Non-roll, woven elastic, made in China.

Graphics: Applied T-shirt graphics etc. Made in Sydney Australia from imported substrates.

Standard Lycra (trim on Bibs): Italian owned mill in China.

Tactel Lycra: Made in New Zealand.

Thread: 35, 50 and 75 wt. Rasant brand, made in Germany.

Zippers: 18cm plastic and brass zippers: Riri brand, made in Switzerland. Full length plastic made in China and to be replaced with Riri.
